It’s called motion pictures for a reason

One thing I learnt early on was that when it comes to movies or videos, it’s all about the visual storytelling. So I edited videos (back when I was attending filmmaking classes) with the sound switched off initially. The idea was that the video must make sense visually first. Try watching any foreign-language film and few minutes into it, you’ll realize that you can grasp the story even without understanding the dialogues. This little practice has helped out as Facebook, Instagram and even LinkedIn now autoplay videos in newsfeeds, with the sound switched off. Execute visual storytelling first, then work on sound, and make sure you put big and bold subtitles (if you have spoken words in the video). For one, everyone will be watching it on their tiny phones (hence, the need for big subtitles) and they will continue watching your video even if they are unable to play it with sound.
